The 2010 Penang Industrial Survey was conducted electronically from July 13 to August 31, 2010, and involved all the manufacturing factories, including multinational corporations (MNCs) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from both Penang Island and the Mainland. This endeavour was undertaken to update data collected from its predecessor, the 2007 Penang Industrial Survey. A similar interview process was employed to conduct this survey i.e. by using a web-based survey engine. A total of 68 companies responded to the survey, of which 35% were MNCs. The response rate was rather disappointing due to a lack of interest among the industrial players in participating in the survey, as they were of the opinion that it would not bring any marginal benefit. To ensure continuity in attracting new investments to the state, the researchers would like to seek better support and cooperation from the industries for future efforts to ensure a more reliable and robust analysis. Their valuable response will be very much appreciated.
