ANY AVID HIKER in Penang with a keen interest in conquering the many peaks of the state would spend time pouring over topographic maps to locate peaks of prominence. While it is no secret that the highest peaks in Penang are located close to the touristy area of the Penang Hill summit, tucked away slightly south are two peaks that rise steeply from the plains of Balik Pulau—the 720m Mount Elvira and the 721m Batu Itam.
