Whether it is the first thing we do in the morning to ease into the day or a ritual to mark the end of a long, exhausting day, candles have a way of making a space feel more homey and cozy. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been both a significant global growth in candle sales and in candle-making hobbyists.
Audrey Hon, the founder of Asian Scents Co, together with the founders of Nildeco, a Penang-based candle brand, are among those who turned a lockdown hobby into thriving businesses. “We started our business during the pandemic because we knew many people were feeling stressed and anxious; some even had trouble sleeping. We built our brand with the hope that our candles would create a comfortable and tranquil environment for our customers,” the latter say.
