Under the grudging afternoon sun, a vegetable seller at a makeshift roadside market braves the heat while waiting for her last customer to buy her produce before it wilts. But the weather drives the crowd away, inviting only flocks of pigeons on the lookout for lunch. (Pusing, Perak)

We leaves, thinking we don't want to return. When we finally do, we wish we'd never left. Moving to the city almost a decade ago, I thought I could always find my hometown as I had left it, but my visit last year dispelled the nostalgia. Confronted by an acute sense of unfamiliarity with the landscape of my past and its current inhabitants, I embarked on a journey to photograph towns and places that friends and strangers have called home in Malaysia. But the more I photograph, the more I realise that I am writing a eulogy to past lives.
