FROM 1940s THROUGH to the 1980s, magazines were a promotional tool for the film industry in this part of the world. The Shaw Organisation dominated the movie magazine market, having the distinct advantage of owning a printing press, The Shaw Printing Works. This was based in Singapore, and it printed and published film magazines in English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil under the banner of The Chinese Pictorial Review Ltd.
