THE PERCENTAGE SHARE of the agriculture sector to Penang’s GDP dropped slightly from 2.7% in 2015 to 2.2% in 2019 (Figure 1). The sector recorded a positive growth rate of 4.9% in 2019, while contributing the same share as the previous year. The total cropland used in Penang increased by about 0.3% in 2019 compared to 2018, mainly due to an increase in cash crops land use.
