Anwar Fazal

Datuk Dr Anwar Fazal was Asst. City Secretary, City Council of George Town, Penang, Malaysia, from 1965 to 1973. Some of the material for this article was from the official programme of the Opening Ceremony of the Youth Park. He worked as private secretary to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu from 1967 to 1973, founded the Consumers Association of Penang and many other local and global civil society organisations. He headed the United Nations Urban Governance Initiative for Asia and the Pacific from 1991 to 2002. He is a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award, popularly known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize” and also the United Nations Environment Programme “Global 500” Award. He is currently Director of the Right Livelihood College and Chairperson of Think City.
