Bukit Mertajam, once an agricultural settlement, is today a prosperous commercial centre. The town gained attention from the British in the nineteenth century – thanks to its lucrative spice and sugar trade – and its growth has continued unabated.

Today, it is an exciting and attractive place peopled by colourful personalities.

Mr. Ang has worked at the same tailor shop, located at Jalan Stesyen, for almost 35 years.
