Ferry fleet to grow
Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) announced that it plans to add four new ferries to the state’s existing fleet in anticipation of the second Penang Bridge, which will be completed in 2013. As the bridge is expected to handle more motorists and heavy vehicles, the new ferries will be designed with motorcyclists and pedestrians in mind. They will have a single deck, can carry up to 150 passengers and are projected to cut travel time by half. The project, estimated to cost RM50mil, still requires approval from the federal government.
