Nirmala Dutt Shanmughalingam, one of Malaysia’s most noted – and controversial – artists struggles to complete her last paintings. Suffering from a series of physical ailments, including the threat of total blindness, she paints her final works in praise of her God.
With vision failing in her only good eye, Nirmala Dutt Shanmughalingam is in a great hurry to complete her last 10 paintings – all in praise of her God.
“I pray that in my condition, God will give me the strength to finish 10 to 12 paintings, to honour Him. Oh God, help me honour your name, for all that you have done for me,” says Nirmala, panting from worsening asthma and a weakening heart.
Her left eye has gone blind and she is relying on the right one, and even that is not functioning properly.
