Penetrating The New Frontier of Medical Devices


The medical devices industry in Malaysia has much greater potential than is currently tapped. The government’s recent measures to encourage local companies with strong machining and engineering backgrounds to explore this industry as a new source of growth has generated much interest.

PENETRATING THE medical devices industry sits high on the wish list of many local manufacturing entities. However, the stringent quality standards associated with the medical and healthcare industry act as natural deterrents.

Local company Prodelcon Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AIC Corporation, is one of a few companies who possessed the foresight to venture into this industry five years ago. Prodelcon is a local supply chain partner to several multinational corporations (MNCs) in the implants and surgical instruments business. We speak to Billy Ooi, Group chief executive officer on his journey into this field and what it takes to penetrate the market.
