Horst Rosenmueller is the managing director of osram Opto Semiconductors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, with 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, working with Siemens and Infineon before moving on to osram. He is presently responsible for total operations comprising Assembly/Test, Supply Chain Management, Quality Management, Procurement, Subcon Management and R&D for Opto Semiconductor products. Also the chairman of the Free Industrial Zone, Penang, Companies’ Association (Frepenca) and member of the Penang Skills Development Council (PSDC) Management Council, he shares his views on life in Penang, and being in the driving seat of one of the world’s largest companies in the led industry here.
What are some of the key highlights of your professional experience?
In 2008, we established an R&D centre here in addition to the R&D Group based in Regensburg, Germany to provide better support for our Asian customers and to position for future business in this region. Next was the opening of the Wafer Fabrication Plant and the launching of the OSRAM Skills Development Centre last year. The most fulfilling highlight for me was being able to steer the company through the recent economic crisis. We expanded just before the onset of the crisis, and when it hit, through effective strategic plans, we were able to maintain our workforce without any retrenchment exercises.
