The American Society of Training & Development (ASTD) is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. What Harvard is to academicians, ASTD is to training and development professionals. Once a year, ASTD hosts an international conference and exposition, capturing a global audience of 10,000 people, including PEM columnist Poh Heem Heem.
THE ANNUAL ASTD International Conference is marketed and positioned as the place where solutions are found and where learning and networking opportunities abound. It reaches out to the US market and targets the international market as well. The 2011 theme was “Learning to Lead”, and the focus was on leveraging on new technology to complement learning, understanding new environmental and emotional factors that affect employee performance, and sparking innovation amongst peers.
If the success of a convention is measured by the level of interest generated and its ability to motivate and inspire conventioneers, there is no doubt that this one surpassed the mark.
