Dell Malaysia’s history in the country stretches back to 1995 with the opening of its first facility in Penang’s free industrial zone (FIZ). Today, Dell continues to make its presence felt among the community, not just as an employer of choice but also as a responsible, socially-aware corporate citizen.
FOR DELL MALAYSIA managing director Datuk Simon Wong, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an important facet of Dell’s corporate culture. Given Dell’s large workforce (over 3,800 staff are based in Penang alone) he believes that the company’s collective “power” in terms of time, technology and know-how could be harnessed for the good of local communities. Dell Malaysia’s sponsorship of the George Town Festival which runs throughout the month of July is the organisation’s first major involvement in the arts in Malaysia. Wong explained why he felt it was necessary for Dell to get involved.
