Americans top investors in Penang
Companies from the US are still the top investors in Penang, with an investment of RM7.9bil in 2010, or 75% of the state’s foreign direct investment (FDI), out of a total fdi of RM10.5bil. Penang has accumulated a total of RM26.4bil in US investments since the 1980s. According to the Malaysian Industrial Development Agency (MIDA), Penang attracted total capital investments of RM12.2bil in 2010, a 465% increase from the previous year.
Graves exhumed for development
The Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) caused a stir when it approved an application by Jiran Bina Sdn Bhd to exhume graves from a site in George Town.
