One of the key objectives of the preliminary 2013-2025 Education Blueprint report is to understand the challenges faced by the Malaysian education system. This segment examines what it takes in terms of enrolment trends of students and the number of teachers by types of training at national level. Examination results are also included. A comparison of the amount spent on education for selected Asean countries and a labour force by education attainment for Penang and Malaysia are also available for review.

The number of students enrolled at the primary level in government-aided religious school (Gars) has increased by 9,284 students, or 161.3% in 2013 from 5,756 students in 2011.
