Water sports law to be enforced
The Penang state government will begin to enforce the Personal Watercraft (Penang) Enactment 1999, following numerous jet-skiing and parasailing accidents. Under the law, beach boys are required to wear coloured armbands identifying the water sports operator they work for. Under the law’s demerit system, an operator who accumulates 50 demerit points will have their license revoked. A panel will be opened in the event of accidents, comprising representatives from the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP), the police and the Watersport Recreation Association of Penang, among others.
