You could certainly choose a worse place than Penang to re-sensitise your palate. Listed on the forum “Happy Cow” as the 28th best city in the world to be vegetarian, the tiny island offers a wealth of dining alternatives. On November 19 last year, The Star reported that Penang has the highest concentration of vegetarian restaurants in the country. With so many to choose from, we agonised over our selection. Note: this is only the most tantalising of appetisers. With palate suitably whetted, we can only encourage you to explore further.
Coya
Located in the heart of Pulau Tikus, Coya is a serene, double-storey shophouse, offering some of my favourite lunch bento boxes. Their spicy mapo tofu, buttered mushroom and pork rice sets come with fruit and an intriguing “bacon mint” appetizer (try it yourself). Also available are dishes for sharing, veggie lor bak, curry mee, dumpling soup and fresh juices.

Evergreen
This is probably my most frequently visited eating establishment. It is practically my second home.
