In Malaysia, police statistics in 20101 show that eight reports on domestic violence and 17 on sexual violence are made daily. These shocking numbers show that gender-based violence remains a pressing issue that needs to be highlighted daily.
On Valentine’s Day this year, the Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) Penang, together with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (Waba) joined the One Billion Rising campaign, a global movement where women and men from 179 countries come together to demand an end to violence against women and girls around the world through performing a choreographed dance.
