Musical wizard returns to the promise of paint


M. Nasir - a maestro on vinyl (music), celluloid (films) and canvas (painting).

A legend in music and lm, Datuk M. Nasir celebrates his 57th birthday with his rst exhibition of acrylic art.

It is a wonder that Datuk M. Nasir chose to stage his first solo painting exhibition on August 9, a month a er turning 57. Nasir is a poet and the Consummate ArtistE – with the capital “A” and “E” – in Malaysian music (singer, composer, lyricist and producer) and movies (actor, director and scriptwriter). But unbeknownst to many, he is also a painter in his own right.

As a young boy growing up in Bukit Panjang, Singapore, he had already set his heart on becoming an artist. So he and fellow seniman journeyman S. Amin Shahab took up Fine Arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa) in 1975, graduating in 1977.
