Just like a page out of an old Wong Fei Hung movie, witness the difference in costumes and styles from all participating nations in the Penang International Lion Dance on Stilts Championship, as teams from all over Malaysia, Vietnam, China and more battle it out for the championship title with the most creative and original lion dance performance.

Culture

The Festival of Taalam 2015 is a two-hour showcase of Indian cultural heritage, featuring a fusion musical performance of tabla, veenai and sitar, which will be accompanied by a Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam performance. This music and light show will also feature percussion instruments from Chinese, Indian and Malay cultures. The highlight of the programme will be the Beat of Passion show, a Malaysia Book of Records attempt for the largest and longest nonstop tabla playing event, which assembles 200 tabla players playing non-stop for 45 minutes.

Exhibition

My Story, My Strength: Doodle for Change is an exhibition of real personal stories of surviving domestic and sexual violence told through art. Organised by the Women’s Centre for Change (WCC), this project hopes to inspire others to seek help and stop more violence from happening.

The exhibition opens with an auction of the artworks, hosted by Sarimah Ibrahim, on August 29. All proceeds go towards supporting WCC’s work in eliminating violence against women and children, and promoting gender equality. You can also support this initiative by sponsoring an artist.

Charity

The Magical Musicals Charity Dinner Show is a fundraising project organised by Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital. Directed by Sabrina Hassan and choreographed by Farah Sulaiman, the colourful show will feature numbers from Flower Drum Song, Cinderella, South Pacific and many more. This fundraising project will benefit the hospital’s "Needy Cancer Patient Fund". Donations are welcome.
