A Pulsating Play that is a Stroll of Rediscovery

At the George Town Festival this year, we can hope to rediscover places – thanks to the upcoming festivalcommissioned play, Pearl of the Eastern & Oriental.

Singaporeans Lim Yu-Beng and Tan Kheng Hua are no strangers to Malaysians – especially Tan, who is famously known as Margaret Phua from the long-running hit television sitcom Phua Chu Kang.

This July and August, both will mesmerise Penangites with a unique play that transcends time and space, Pearl of the Eastern & Oriental, written and directed by Lim and produced by Tan. The George Town Festival (GTF)-commissioned performance will be held at Penang’s opulent E&O Hotel.

Described as “an enchanting tale of a young lady butler at The E&O Hotel today as she goes about her job, in the company of ghosts and guests from the hotel's past and present” on the GTF website, guests will be ushered through a designated route within the E&O Hotel as actors play out scenes before them.
