While many of us are concerned about death and old age, survivability in old age might be a more pressing matter, economically. Here are the numbers on Malaysia’s ageing population, its finances, and in relation to selected countries in Asia.
Figure 1 shows the comparison of the population compositions of specific age groups in Malaysia, Japan, China and Singapore.
With regard to Japan’s population, more than a quarter consists of those aged 65 and over, highlighting the problem of an ageing society – one of the nation’s biggest concerns at present.
