Anthony Lau’s realisation is that staying curious is what makes life worth living.
“Please write it down,” he commands. Then, he squints closer to eyeball the small blackboard to read the chalk scribblings, sometimes using his fingers to gently prise open his eyelids in order to see and answer the question.
Sometimes, he uses a magnifying glass.
“I can see the shape, not the face I knew before,” he says.
By his own assessment, his eyesight is good for 50%, his left ear is kaput, while his right ear can perform at only 15%-20%.
Anthony Lau, at 83, may have been encumbered by a host of illnesses including diabetes, but he is just as enthusiastic about the outside world as ever, now through the connecting medium of cyberspace.
