Join CENDANA for an epic conversation with the artistic team behind the powerful TIME’s Climate is Everything cover. Moderated by playwright and researcher Dr. Ann Lee, the CENDANA Arts Sharing Session will feature Red Hong Yi and her artistic team to explore the story behind the magazine cover, the initial point of conversation with TIME, the team’s thought processes, and coordinating and implementing the performance art. The sharing session will be aired Live via Zoom and CENDANA MALAYSIA’s Facebook page.


CHARITY

Throughout May, join Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital’s Run for the Needy and help to raise funds for cancer patients. Record your distance using any running app, treadmill record or pedometer and submit your results before 11.59pm on May 31, 2021. Finishers will receive a Finisher Medal.


THEATRE

A theatre production directed by Fa Abdul, 13-year-old Leela Jhansi leads a happy and contented life in a remote village in India, but dreams of a brighter future through education. 

Destiny, however, has ordained otherwise. When the richest man in the village, Damodaram proposes to marry Leela, promising wealth and a secure future, Leela’s father Palwankar begins to dream of riches – after all, why must he deprive his daughter of such an opportunity? 


EXHIBITION

The Art Gallery is organising the Nasir Nadzir, In Remembrance: A Celebration of His Life and Artistic Journey exhibition. Nasir Nadzir was a Penang-based nature artist who passed away after suffering from Covid-19 complications. Among his noted works are Tam In Remembrance, which pays tribute to the last male Sumatran rhinoceros and Bread Loaves And Slices Of Life, depicting a friendly mamak sundry shop on mainland Penang.

EXHIBITION

You know you're in Penang when you hear locals speak the distinctive, northern-accented Hokkien. But with the Mandarin language gaining importance, Penang’s Hokkien is now on “life support”. Check out The Death and Life of Hokkien: How an Ideology Wipes Out Your Mother Tongue exhibition, and help Persatuan Bahasa Hokkien Pulau Pinang to revitalise the Hokkien language. Admission is free.


EXHIBITION

Faded Indie Art Exhibition is showcasing some of Penang's fine artists from diverse backgrounds to increase public knowledge and to provide greater exposure for local indie artists. Visitors can expect works inspired by a wide range of techniques and forms including watercolour, inks, aerosol spray paint, marker pens, acrylics and more.
