Online Art Exhibition

Curated by Ivan Gabriel, BOXED IN is a group exhibition showcasing works of Penang-based visual artists from various backgrounds and art practices. These artists are challenged to “think outside the box”, and to reflect and reinterpret their creations as isolation caves in around them. Expect to see works by Aboud Fares, bibichun, Nasir Nadzir, Mandy Maung and more.


Lovers of glove puppet theatre, rejoice! The much loved Ombak Potehi glove puppet theatre troupe is set to bring the art form to live online, with a screening of “A meeting with potehi” this December. The screening is supported by Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy and the Penang House of Music.


Did you know that the word “langur” has a Hindu origin and means “long-tailed”? Immerse yourself in the lives of langurs and duskies, and learn interesting facts about them through the fun and interactive virtual programme Langur Langur Go Online organised by the Langur Project Penang — an outreach research project focusing on sustainable langur conservation in Penang.


The OBS Christmas Run is back this year as a 5km VIRTUAL RUN! To celebrate the festive season, put on your running gear and join the run from anywhere and at any time from December 14-20! In TWISTED, well-known characters from different fairy tales are entwined in a new plot, giving the stories and characters a contemporary and empowering twist.

Flex your creative muscles and participate in the UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College and Penang Youth Development’s poster design competition! Themed “Rediscovering New Reality with the Pandemic'', the competition aims to inspire innovation as we adapt to our New Normal.

The contest is open to participants between the ages of 15-30. All entries must be submitted in a group of two participants. Deadline for submission is December 15.


Organised by the Penang Art District and Thames International Business School, the Innovation & Creative Entrepreneurship Program is a 2-month-long initiative designed for would-be creative entrepreneurs.

It aims to provide a learning environment for aspiring talents, combining academic theory with practical and real-world application, to bring together creative capabilities through peer-learning and mentorship, and to build an interconnected ecosystem and network of creative communities in Penang.

Interested individuals and organisations with an existing business / enterprise or initiative are encouraged to apply. Registration ends on December 21. 


A host for Hour of Code 2020 – a global movement involving over 180 countries in promoting computer science – the Penang Science Cluster will be conducting online Python and Scratch classes to introduce the programming languages to participants.

The classes are open to students aged 13-16 (for Python) and 6-12 (for Scratch). Limited seats are available so make sure to register by December 11.
