Every year, thousands of people flock to Pesta Pulau Pinang, drawn there by the bright lights, thrilling shows and good bargains. This year is no exception. Highlights of the month-long Pesta include Muay Thai, an exhibition of antique keris, International Cat Show, various stalls selling local products and the popular Euro Fun Park.

Culture

This December, bring your family to experience the athleticism of chingay at the Penang Pesta Chingay Parade. Chingay and Lion Dance troupe members will display their prowess in balancing stilt poles during this annual street parade.Expect giant colourful flags and heavily adorned floats, lion and dragon dance performances, as well as a procession of decorative trishaws. Admission is free.

Sports

The Penang International Dragon Boat Festival is among the fastest growing watersports in the region. The boats, with their dragon heads and tails, signify unity; the dragon is said to be a combination of the animals in the Chinese zodiac. Enjoy a weekend of pulsating thrills and spills to the tune of the vigorous beating of drums, strong thrust of oars and various stage performances as the dragon boat teams battle it out on the water to be the champions.

The Penang Math Platform will be organising Mindfest, a series of mind-stimulating fun-and-games sessions specially crafted to keep school-going children busy during the school holidays! Let loose on a game of chess, solve a Rubik’s cube or discover how traditional games were played back in the day.
