George Town Festival is back this year with a spectacular lineup of music, dance, film, arts, food and more, by local and international artists. The festival is in its ninth year and draws thousands of visitors each year to Penang.

George Town Festival and the Penang Eurasian Association will be organising the Eurasian Heritage Fiesta 2018, a publiccelebration to commemorate the arrival of the Eurasians in Penang. Expect showcases of the Eurasian community, including Eurasian cuisine, music, display items and an interactive form. Admission is free.


The Coding with Python (Beginners) workshop is organised by Maker Girls, a group of young female engineering undergraduates from USM who wish to encourage young women to learn coding from scratch by offering their skills to the community.


Malaysia’s premiere photography festival, the OBSCURA Festival of Photography, returns this August. As a part of the annual George Town Festival, OBSCURA Festival is centered around storytelling in photography. Now entering its sixth year, the festival opens on August 25 with exhibitions, masterclasses, presentations, photo books, panel discussions and portfolio reviews to bring together photographers from around the world to Penang Island.

Calling all shutterbugs! Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai, Spirit Of Perai and Think City will be organising the Aspiring Seberang Perai Photograpy Awards 2018 photography contest. With the theme #MySungaiPerai, contestants get to unearth Sungai Perai’s ecological, heritage and cultural potential. With many cash prizes to be won, it pays to showcase the beauty of Sungai Perai.
