Lights, camera... Penang State Assembly!

The third session of the 12th Penang Legislative Assembly finally got underway from May 3–6, 2010, and the Penang Economic Monthly took a look behind the scenes.

The role of the Legislative Assembly is to debate and enact state legislation and policies. Before they’re allowed to take part, elected members are required to take an oath, promising to perform their duties and swearing their allegiance to the country and Constitution. Other than on the first day of proceedings, cameras are not allowed inside the conference hall itself. The Penang Assembly celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
