St Anne’s Festival

In July every year, Bukit Mertajam comes to life as pilgrims flock to St Anne’s Church to take part in the massive St Anne’s Festival. The festival is held for 10 days, including the actual feast day on July 26. The celebrations include prayer, a candlelight procession and a novena, a nine-day prayer. Drawing up to 100,000 pilgrims from around the world every year, it is the largest such festival in South-East Asia, and one of the largest in the world.
