Do you love watching movies and sharing popcorn? This February, roll out your mats and let’s do all that under the stars on a carpet of grass at Tropfest South East Asia 2015.

Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival and competition, is all about contributing to the development of the film industry by providing opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their short films to their communities as well as to the rest of the world.

We also heard that acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle will be the judge and speaker. See you there!

Elevate to new heights at the Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and become the envy of the masses down below!

The Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta gives visitors an experience on a hot air balloon against a picturesque backdrop of the George Town World Heritage Site. Expect inflatable playgrounds, creative workshops, photography competitions, kite flying and more.

Theatre

Puteri Saadong, the adopted daughter of Cik Siti Wan Kembang, is best remembered for killing her husband with a hairpin.

Brought to you by D’Catz at Work (in collaboration with UiTM’s Faculty of Music), visual opera Puteri Saadong features the enchanting singer, Syafinaz Selamat, as the titular character. Puteri Saadong is the first Malay opera to combine Mak Yong, gamelan and chamber orchestra in a bid to retell a legend through visual interpretation and musical display.

Comedy

KKick off your year with an artful discovery at the Alliance Francaise de Penang, which is hosting a collective art exhibition by Urban Sketchers Penang. With a powerful manifesto like "We show the world, one drawing at a time," prepare to be swept away by more than 30 watercolour artworks and sketches about Penang, painted or drawn by 20 local artists. With pencil, ink and paint, their intention is to capture different locations of the island and George Town, drawing moments as a record of time and space.
